Doctor Strange. Who is he? And what should I read? – By VickamaruNara

We’ve just had a pretty exciting announcement that the first Doctor Strange trailer will air on Jimmy Kimmel next week! I’ve been following this film since day 1 and my excitement grows day by day!

Who is Doctor Strange?
Doctor Strange, real name Steven Strange, is one of the most powerful sorcerer’s in the Marvel universe! He was an expert neurosurgeon and after a car crash that severely damaged the nerves in his hands he was unable to perform surgery. Strange refused to accept this and tried every avenue he could think of to find a cure. He eventually caught wind of the Ancient One and sought out to ask the Ancient One to fix his hands. To cut a long story short the Ancient One takes Strange on as a disciple and teaches him the art of sorcery.

If you’re completely unfamiliar with Doctor Strange and want to read a recent comic of the character, I recommended you read Jason Aaron’s latest “Doctor Strange – The way of the weird” comic as it really delves into the peculiar world Stephan lives in. You also get a good look around the Sanctum Sanctorum, which is Strange’s home. It’s only on it’s 6th issue so far and has an incredibly captivating story. You can pre-order the first trade on Amazon now and it’s release is set at the 2nd May!

If you’re looking for an origin story, something that explains what Steven has gone through and how he becomes Doctor Strange in more detail, there’s a pretty simple graphic novel called Doctor Strange – Season One that explains his background.

A more famous Doctor Strange story is “The Oath” where Strange sets out to solve his own murder. He is also featured heavily in the Avengers/new Avengers story arc written by Johnathan Hickman.

The film has UK release for October 28th!
